SHORT MESSAGING SERVICE (SMS) HELP

Anyone on the move can now obtain the telephone number of the personnel or organisation
in the Singapore Government Directory Interactive (SGDi).

To search for Organisation

  1. Key SGDI followed by a space and the name of the organisation, either in abbreviation or its full
E.g. Key in SGDI < space > MCI or SGDI < space > Ministry of Communications and Information.
  2. Send the message to 74688 (SGOVT).
  3. This will return a SMS with the organisation's address and its main telephone line.
  4. If you use an abbreviation for your search, the system may return other organisations whose names match the abbreviation.
E.g. If MOT was sent, it will return Ministry of Transport. But in addition to this, it will also return Health Promotion Board and Singapore Learning Promotion Department etc.

To search for Personnel

  1. Key SGDI followed by a space and the person's name, full-stop and his/her organisation. (it is not necessary to key in the organisation, although doing so would help narrow down your search.)
E.g. Key in SGDI < space > Patricia Nui <.> MCI or just SGDI < space > Patricia Nui
  2. Send the message to 74688 (SGOVT).
  3. For Chinese names, please enter the surname first e.g. Koh Lay Hoon.
  4. You can also enter the first names with or without the organisation:
E.g. Lay Hoon or Lay Hoon.MCI
  5. If only the name is specified then all records matching the name will be returned.

Please note:

  1. Your SMS message should not exceed 160 characters. Otherwise only the first part of the SMS, within the 160 characters, will be delivered for processing. The excess will be lost.
  2. When the SMS of the returned results exceed 160 characters, it will be delivered through multiple SMS which may not be in order. There will be an indicator at the start of each sms. E.g. "1 of 3" where 1 is the order of the SMS and 3 is the total number of SMS.
  3. Your SMS query can be in upper or lower case or both as the system is not case-sensitive.
